Website redesign using WordPress

intro

Cooper Health undertook a comprehensive website redesign to modernize its digital presence, improve usability, and better serve a diverse audience seeking clear, accessible healthcare information. The project was delivered in collaboration with Eastern Standard, where I worked as a contractor alongside their internal design and engineering teams.

From a technical standpoint, the project involved architecting and implementing a custom Drupal 10 theme built on a component-driven approach. High-fidelity Figma designs were translated into reusable Twig components and templates, integrated with Drupal Paragraphs and Layout Builder to enable flexible, editor-friendly page composition. Content models were structured to balance strict design system constraints with the flexibility required for varied page types and future expansion.

The front end was developed using a modular SCSS architecture aligned with the component system, ensuring maintainable and scalable styling across the site. JavaScript behavior was implemented using Drupal behaviors to ensure compatibility with dynamic rendering and progressive enhancement. Assets were managed via Drupal’s libraries.yml, with scoped CSS and JavaScript bundles loaded per component to optimize performance and reduce unnecessary payload.

Throughout the build, emphasis was placed on accessibility (WCAG 2.x considerations), responsive behavior across breakpoints, and performance best practices. The resulting Drupal 10 implementation provides a robust, scalable foundation that supports complex editorial workflows, maintains design fidelity, and enables long-term maintainability.

The challenge

Healthcare websites present a unique set of challenges: complex content structures, strict accessibility requirements, and the need to communicate critical information clearly across all devices.

Key challenges included:

  • Converting intricate Figma designs into a flexible Drupal 10 component system
  • Ensuring accessibility best practices were met across layouts and interactive elements
  • Supporting a wide range of content types and editorial workflows
  • Maintaining design consistency while allowing for future scalability
  • Delivering a high-performance, responsive experience across desktop, tablet, and mobile

The project required close collaboration between design, engineering, and content stakeholders to ensure the final product met both technical and organizational goals.

solution

Working closely with Eastern Standard’s internal teams, I helped implement the front-end and Drupal 10 build, translating design concepts into reusable, maintainable components. The site was developed with a component-based architecture, allowing editors to assemble pages efficiently while preserving visual consistency.

Key aspects of the solution included:

  • Building responsive Drupal 10 templates aligned precisely with the Figma designs
  • Developing flexible, reusable components to support varied content needs
  • Ensuring accessibility considerations were integrated throughout the build
  • Optimizing performance and front-end behavior across breakpoints
  • Collaborating closely with designers and engineers to iterate and refine the implementation

This approach ensured the platform was both visually polished and technically robust.

Results

The final outcome was a modern, scalable Drupal 10 website that delivers a clear, accessible, and user-friendly experience. The redesigned site improved content organization, enhanced responsiveness, and provided Cooper Health with a future-proof foundation for ongoing updates and growth.

The collaboration between design, engineering, and development resulted in a cohesive product that balanced aesthetic quality with technical excellence—meeting the needs of both end users and internal teams.
